The Law, as they say, is an Ass
So that pastor's wife got away with shooting her husband in the back while he was sleeping. Mary Winkler claimed years of abuse and was convicted of manslaughter. She spent something like six months in jail/mental health facility, and is freed today.
Meanwhile, in Philadelphia, Myra Morton shot her husband while he was sleeping. In that case, her husband had married a younger woman in Morocco as a second wife, and was going to fly there the next day in order to impregnate her. She put two shots from a Glock .40 in his head.
For some reason, I have an intuitive sense these cases are not analogous, but darned if I can figure out why. Maybe it's because Myra Morton had the good taste to use a Glock (kidding, kidding).
Hmm ... I have to think about this. For some reason, I think if you tell your wife that you've taken another wife, and you're going overseas to impregnate her (and you were unable to have kids with your "first" wife), you should pretty much expect to wake up talking to Jesus instead of going to the airport.
But if you abuse your wife for years, you should expect her to leave. With the kids. And prosecute you. Plus, the police and your friends should kick your ass.
This is the kind of stuff the law has to figure out.
