On the Yankees signing Roger Clemens for $25M for four months work
From what I understand, the Yankees initially approached Bob Gibson and Sandy Koufax to shore up the rotation, but both men wanted too much ...

UPDATED: Omitted million added to headline. Thanks, Chris.

Don't feel bad about the $25M. If you break it down by the likely number of pitches it may be $15k-$20k per pitch. Surely the labor involved in throwing the ball over plate justifies that kind of money.

I know that he won't be playing for 8 hours a day during those 4 months, but still, isn't $25 well below minimum wage?

SuperG: Where you been? I noticed you deleted all but a few posts on your blog ... what's up?

Bill,

I've been very busy working, doing things with my family, and trying to stay out of blog/politics for a while. I deleted something like 630 old posts - kind of cleaning up the past. Somewhere in the past year I've decided that I am really more interested in retiring than working a lot longer. So, throwing things from the past out is probably a bit symptomatic of that mindset change. You're marginally younger than me, but may be you'll get hit by it too.

It is a fair bit cheaper than some of my other mid-life crisis decisions.

Best, G
