How long it takes to change perceptions
Recently I've read several articles referring to our alleged inability to predict the weather. And I thought -- that used to be true. There were frequent jokes about the weatherman's being wrong. But is it true any more?
Not that the metereologists are always right. But aren't they correct an awful lot? And hasn't that been true for a long time as well?
Guess we only remember when they're wrong ...
FWIW. I'm only trying to make a small point.

And since we can now get instance weather, the weather is pretty good 24, and sometimes 48 hours in advance.
I don't know that the week-in-advance predictions are very good. 30 days predictions are still pretty worthless, I suspect.
the five-day forecast is usually pretty good, and the next day forecast is usually right on. i think they do pretty well.
but what do i know?
I think that it depends on where you are. Some places have much more predictable weather than other places do.
There are places where you can fairly accurately predict the weather by calling someone about 300 miles to the west and asking them what their weather is like now. Other places, not so much.
