Bill's Notes

Ugh
This is just depressing.

Morris: Hillary will be ‘worst president we’ve ever seen’

Dick Morris is no fan of Sen. Hillary Clinton, having spent much of the past decade writing and speaking out against her. And he took his always-quotable opinions to the offices of Americans for Tax Reform Wednesday at a breakfast sponsored by The American Spectator.

Dick’s greatest hits:

» Although Barack Obama is an “exciting phenomenon,” he is the equivalent of “political stem cells: You can make him into any tissue you want.”

» “It is in the national interest that, if there is a Democratic president, that it not be Hillary.”

» “The Republican field is like the New York Yankees: They’ve got a pitching rotation of really great names who are 45 years old and who probably won Cy Young Awards when they were younger. But they’ll have a sore arm by the World Series and will end up on the [disabled list]. Republicans need to look to the minor leagues.”

» He laid out the political future: “Hillary will be the next president, and she’ll be the worst president we’ve ever seen.” No matter what happens, the situation in Iraq will “assure that the GOP gets massacred in 2008 congressional elections.” In 2010, the Republicans will take back the Congress — “Hillary will give Republicans the same gift she gave them in 1994” — and they’ll win the presidency in 2012, but thanks to demographic shifts favoring [Democrats] (namely the rising Hispanic and African-American populations), “that will be the last Republican president we’ll ever see.”

I do believe the Dems could nominate a Yellow Dog and win in 2008, and that the GOP will likely retake Congress in 2010 and win back the presidency in 2012. However, I didn't know the demographics were that much against the GOP.

This is depressing. But hey, it's not like anyone can predict the future. He's talking 14 years out -- that's several political lifetimes. Lots can happen.

Thats what people are writing about the demographics. Somewhere in the not so far future I'll no longer be in the majority, but I still won't get credit for being a minority. I'll just be post-majority.

Dick Morris has some deep problem with Hillary that just barely exceed Chris Matthew's problem with Hillary. If only Dick would come clean with himself and admit it that there is an unnature hatred in his fixation on Hillary, then may be the world would have one less bitter man to have to listen to.

Bitter men are about 3 times as annoying to me as bitter women. Bitter women are annoying too, just less than bitter men. It could just be the sample of people I've dealt with in my life. May be it is my belief that men shouldn't complain while I expect a certain amount of it out of women. Linus could probably tell me.

Harry (mail) (www):
"Worst president we've ever seen"? She'll have a tough act to follow.

Whoever becomes the next President will be inheriting the damage done by eight years of Bush's incompetence and stupidity. They will be up against not only whatever new challenges arise in the nation and the world, but also the legacy of Bush's eight years in office. Maybe we shouldn't let him fly off to Crawford on January 20, 2009 until he's cleaned up the mess he's made.

Now, Harry, what would you say if Bush said, "Oh, I can't leave office until I've cleaned up the mess I've made." After all, he can't clean up the "mess" without presidential powers, so he'll just have to stay in office. :)

BTW, Harry, this is not to say I agree with your characterization of Dubya's performance. Obviously I don't.

SuperG: I dunno Dick Morris' problem with Hillary. The key to any presidency is the ability to make decisions. You have smart people surrounding you who disagree, and you've got to make the call. How would Hillary do? Look at her past executive positions. That would be ... uh, a law firm in Arkansas, plus how she runs her Senate office. From there it's a big jump to running the executive branch of the federal government.

If the dems get their majority from hispanics and blacks, it will be a really interesting time vis-a-vis abortion (and gay marriage), since both groups are not known for their social liberalism.

That's a good point, Chris. To be a Blue Sky Optimist for a moment, I think both groups eventually can be peeled off from the Democrats.

Bill -

Dick Morris doesn't have any credibility with me so I have no problem ignoring his assessment Hillary. He's just polishing conservative knobs (metaphorically of course) for money instead of contributing to society. The "worst president ever" debate has lost a lot of interest for me since the majority of the country now realizes Bush for what he is and those that do not are probably incapable of seeing it (which probably includes Dick Morris).

My "deep thought" of the week has been contemplating about us living at the end of the Great Era of Cheap Energy and Ecological Irresponsibility. I'm thinking about trading my Boxster in for a two-seater electric car - if I find one that goes 100 mph with a 100 mile range. Where is that crazy old Gore anyway?

Have a good weekend.

Super, as always, G

I will add that I hope that Hillary isn't our next President, but that isn't really out of any fear about what she would do.

Well, that's very tolerant of you :)

Bush is a slightly left of center domestically, somewhat rightish hawk on foreign policy. For some reason, he's been the target for a level of hysteria I've rarely seen before. So count me in the "incapable" of seeing it. I don't the facts don't remotely support this guy's the worst president ever, or even a bad one. Just a middle of the bunch guy, with the normal stuff that happens. A great tax cut, though. Man, this economy's friggin' BOOMING! And been booming.

As far as the "era of cheap oil" and "ecological irresponsiblity," I remember hearing the same thing in the 1970s. This country's rivers and streams used to be in hideous shape when I was a boy. LA used to be covered in filthy, disgusting smog. We've done a great job cleaning things up.

Will the oil run out? Probably. But as I've said before, the earth is filled almost to the brim with molten lava, and on top of that is mostly water. I mean, it's practically a steam engine already. Someone just needs to figure out how to turn it into one. Plus, we have that fusion reaction seven light minutes away, if we can ever figure out how to use it.

Take heart. It's still Morning in America.

I fully acknowledge my "deep thoughts" usually aren't that deep. In my case, I just mean deep relative to my usual empty thoughts.

There is an electric car that goes 130 mph - but I can't afford it right now.

I'll admit that I've done better than I imagined I would during the Bush era in most aspects of my life. I don't attribute it to Bush at all, but I might be in denial about that I suppose. Some of the successes in my life appear to have been accidental and some of my conscious acts have resulted in amazing failures. Often my predictions are completely off (or at least when it comes to the future performance of stocks). On a random aside, I think that I often appear friendly to other people mainly because I don't raise my voice very often and I often try to listen to what they are saying.

I believe that we've already started global warming and it will be bad/catastrophic to many people. However, I believe it will motivate mankind to invent and use new energy sources. It will be both bad and good. In there some place, I hope my descendants have the vision (or enough luck) to come out on top. Along with Bears this weekend.

Well no one can say that the next election is going to be a dull one that's for sure.
