Bill's Notes

You think I'm tough on Democrats
You should read this post by the Anchoress.

This post was not about politics. It was a link only :)

BTW, I will not be following the McCarthy scandal. I have no idea what it's about, and I don't care. You say leak, and I think of my friend John's Ghanaian friend John, who didn't understand the Americanism, "to take a leak." Instead, he'd say, "I am leaking."

She blew the whistle on secret CIA prisons being operated outside of U.S. jurisdiction. You should care. Every American should care.

So, see, you do care.

Except that these secret prisons outside of the US may not actually exist.

In which case, there's no leak.

Still, the European Union seems to think they do. (Yes, I know, who cares what the rest of the world says?)

Harry,

You can leak something which turns out to be false, and it's even still a crime!

And the article that you link to says that the evidence isn't that great for secret european detention centers — only for a pattern of rendition of people to countries with very loose human rights oversight.

However, since St. Bill Clinton engaged in rendition, it's obviously a perfectly fine practice about which no person of good heart need be troubled about. I mean, democrats care. As Atrios points out so often, they're the good people. If the good people could sanction this, it's obviously fine. So what are you getting all worked up over? Can you really, in good conscience, criticize something that a democrat has done? You must be a right-wing republican. Who would have thought it!

(For the record, I actually find rendition highly troubling, though much less so if it's only applied to bad people, and I have no good way of knowing if it actually is only applied 100% to bad people only. That's actually more of an epistemological problem, and it's by no means clear that in a situation where false negatives can cost lives just as false positives can, fallible oversight is an improvement over fallible judgment.)
