Bill's Notes

Who've have thunk?
You can get decent pizza up in Dutchie-land, i.e., the Poconos?

But you can. Frank's is pretty good, even if they ain't the friendliest folks up there.
Harry (mail) (www):
Given the current demographic trends in the Poconos, it would be more accurate to call it "Little New York". Damned out-of-towners moving in.

If you want ral pizza, head on up to Old Forge, near Scranton. I guess you can call that "Italian-land", even though it borders on "Irish-land".

And, by the way, what exactly makes the Poconos "Dutchie-land"? I can't imagine that in all your time in the area you haven't noticed the distinct lack of Pennsylvania Dutch hanging around? Or dou you big city kids imagine that everything in Pennsylvania outside of Filthadelphia (with the possible exception of Pittsburgh) is one big Pennsylvania Dutch theme park?

What do you mean? The Dutchies are everywhere ... aren't they? Maybe I just assume they're Dutch.

I haven't seen any in all my times down thataway, or in any of my travels in the enormous area of central eastern Pennsylvania collectively referred to as "The Poconos". You should head out to Lancaster or Hershey to get an idea of what they really look like.

Harry,
It's possible you don't know what a Dutchie is!!! I can assure you that almost without exception we are surrounded by them. Wake up and smell the scrapple!

Yes, apparently I don't. I assumed you meant "Pennsylvania Dutch", English. But if I don't know what you're saying, it is possible other people don't, either.

(I assume you're not referring to people who like to give "Dutch Ovens", by the way.)

Harry,
I suppose you have to be around them for a while before you start refering to them as Dutchies. It's just one of those things that comes with experience.

So, who are "they"?
